An insurance agent is a local professional who sells policies offered by one or more insurance companies. You probably purchase insurance through a local agent to protect your business from financial loss. 

Sometimes it can be advantageous to work with a particular agent, who perhaps has more expertise insuring businesses like yours, or who may offer better service than you’ve received in the past. In this situation it’s possible to designate a particular agent to work with an insurance company on your behalf. This is accomplished via a document called an ”Agent of Record Letter” (or AOR).
